Troubleshooting

Android: "was compiled with an incompatible version of Kotlin"

The app builds with a Kotlin version older than 2.3.0. See Android Setup.

Android: the map crashes with NoClassDefFoundError

The missing class is org/apache/http/ProtocolVersion. Devices with an old version of Google Play services draw the map with the legacy renderer, which needs the Apache HTTP library. Apps that target Android 9 or newer only get it when they declare it in the <application> element of AndroidManifest.xml:

<uses-library
android:name="org.apache.http.legacy"
android:required="false" />

iOS: pod install fails with "cannot load such file" for svgkit_patch

The Podfile still contains the svgkit patch from 1.x. Remove it, see Upgrading from 1.x.

iOS: the app terminates when the first map is created

The Maps SDK has no valid key, either because GMSServices.provideAPIKey was not called before the map was created or because the app contains a second copy of the SDK. See Configure the API key and Native Dependencies.

iOS: import RNGoogleMapsPlus fails in the app

The module has no public Swift API, its headers belong to the Nitro bridge. Import GoogleMaps directly for GMSServices.
